Capacities and expertise:
Research and Genetic Evaluation Unit: 3 PhD, 1 MSc and 2 BSc (Agric) employees in Animal
Breeding and Genetics. This unit is currently responsible for genetic evaluations of beef,
dairy, sheep and pig breeds, as well as population studies for horse and dog breeds as well.
SA Stud Book has an operational Database (Logix) designed specifically for capturing, storing
and processing of dairy data, integrated with pedigree and genomic information. SA Stud
Book also has the capacity for storage of pedigree and genomic (SNP) data for an unlimited
number of animals.
