    In a deregulated market environment, it is critically important for the viability of the dairy industry that market signals are available to all interested parties, so as to ensure the effective working of the markets.

  • Consumer Education

    On the one hand, the purpose is to rekindle the affection for milk and other dairy products through above-the-line advertisements and other modern initiatives and on the other hand, to convey factual information to dieticians, health care workers, students, teachers, the consumer in general, etc via specialized means.

  • Research & Development

    The R&D Programme focuses on coveying existing knowledge to especially producers and processors; to ensure that research efforts in SA are co-ordinated and harmonized; and to encourage research that is functional and relevant to especially the producers and processors.

    Constructive co-operation amongst the role-players in the dairy industry, including Government. To promote constructive co-operation amongst role players in the dairy industry in harmony with the Competition Act and other legal requirements.

  • Custom Duties & Market Access

    The project contributes to a trade dispensation that supports the growth and development of the dairy industry in South Africa.

  • Dairy Quality & Safety

    Promoting compliance among industry players, with regulations and standards pertaining to product composition, food safety and metrology standards.

  • Membership of and participation in the activities of the International Dairy Federation (IDF) by the SA National Committee of IDF (SANCIDF)

    Through SANCIDF, the organized SA dairy industry is one of ±54 member countries of the IDF, sharing and creating information across all dairy related disciplines including the environment, animal health & welfare, food safety, economics, farming and consumerism.

  • Skills & Knowledge Development

    Milk SA encourages the continuous development of learning material so as to keep up with the ever demanding technological advances, while also encourages participation by MPO and SAMPRO in the official learning dispensation via the SETAs and other structures.

  • Regulations & Standards

    The project relates to dairy technical issues, regulations and standards and encompasses industry involvement regarding a myriad of topics.
